‘Til Death Do Us Part.

Watching the Emmy Awards last night, I was reminded of a frightening trend noticeable in all award shows. Past the impossibly perky breasts, the many viles of Botox that had to be sacrificed and the cleverly camouflaged back stabbing, the evening had the inevitable “In Memoriam” montage where recently departed Entertainment luminaries are remembered. What is disturbing in this tribute is the reminder that even in death, we are not perceived as equals. As the pictures and names of the dead rolled on, some got timid applauses while others such as Ed Bradley and Luciano Pavarotti got roaring recognition. We are judged all of our lives. It would be good to know that at least once we get to our resting place, the judging stops.
