Picking the Right Battles

This is one of these days when little makes sense.
Former lead singer of French Rock-Band Noir Désir, Bertrand Cantat, is being released today after serving four of the eight-year jail sentence he received for the brutal and deadly beating of his former love, French actress Marie Trintignant. Four years? I’m disgusted. Enough with defending celebrity dogs and ducks that become pâté, already. We need to spend more time teaching our sons to respect women and more time fighting for our daughters’ rights.

I have been part of many heated discussions on the Cantat/Trintignant case. One man told me, and I quote: she was no day at the beach either. Things can get out of control.
I looked at him, speechless. A woman was murdered for godsake.
Domestic violence comes in all shape & form, I for one, have been a victim, in my teenage years, the negative effects of that time in my life remained well into my thirties, and I am fortunate to live to tell the tale. I NEVER talk about it. Same with a friend of mine who was a victim of date rape. She ended up feeling she was at fault.
Today I am strong and proud of who I am and I can smell trouble à 10 000 à la ronde.. If only Marie had just ran away from there… Notice how no one ever talks about the victim.
OJ simpson / Cantat? Both got away with murder.

First, I salute your courage. You are a survivor. You’re absolutely right: we never talk about the victims. The one consolation in the Cantat case is that the courts have forbidden him to speak and profit from this ordeal (in print, live and in song). I hope that wherever he decides to settle, he will be shun. As for OJ … he’s an idiot and I feel for both Nicole’s and Ron’s respective families who must hear anout OJ’s antics every other week.
